The Destination Basingstoke Grassroots Community Fund

A Grassroots Community Foundation has been set up in Basingstoke to give grants to small groups working in local communities from 2011.

The fund has now reached an impressive £26,000, thanks to the generosity of our former Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Keith Chapman who agreed that the Destination Basingstoke Grassroots Community Fund would be one of his dedicated charities for his mayoral year 2010/11. Funds from the Mayor's fund raising activities joined donations from local businesses and individuals and these were matched by the Government's Grassroots Fund.

The fund is being managed on Destination Basingstoke's behalf by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation. The revenue that is generated from this investment will be used to make grants for the long term support of our community.

The first grants will be available for small local groups by late 2011. Details of how to apply and exactly who will be eligible will be publicised when the fund matures, but it will support some of the smaller community based groups in the area from parent and toddler groups to local sports clubs who often struggle to find funds to continue their important work to make Basingstoke the great place it is to live.

Destination Basingstoke is working with local employers committed to supporting their community, and encouraging them to donate money to the Foundation, either as part of their corporate social responsibility agenda or from staff fund raising.
